Perijean Substance Abuse Organisation (PSAO) was birthed (due to the prevalence of) amidst the rise of youth exposure to drug and alcohol abuse. 75% of the board members have interacted with children and youth abusing alcohol and drugs in schools and colleges either as teachers or health practitioners. Though substance abuse has been attributed to mental health, it also has been due to peer pressure, experimentation, and entertainment. The youth are gullible, as they are still searching for who they really are. There aren’t enough resources and time in schools to talk about dependence on alcohol and drugs; hence, the formation of this organisation. PSAO intends to create a safe space where both the substance abuser and caregiver find each other and find healing.
